Based out of New Orleans, Louisiana, interior designer Hattie Collins is the principal and owner of Hattie Sparks Interiors. Hattie's passion for creating spaces that nurture connection and authenticity is at the forefront of each project she takes on. Designing elegant and sophisticated spaces with a relaxing and approachable warmth, Hattie believes in a relaxed fluidity, believing no room should be off-limits - every room ought to welcome others in and reflect her clients wholeheartedly.
THE path
Originally from Texas, Hattie spent her childhood living immersed in nature in the mountains outside of Aspen. It was graduate school where she fell in love with interior spaces and obtained her master’s degree in art history. Her focus, specifically on architectural history, provided her with a nuanced understanding of space, color, and depth.
Graduate school helped shape her aesthetic and appreciation for sourcing art directly from local and regional artists, and she began her career as the owner of a brick-and-mortar boutique in New Orleans. After honing her eye for design further, she opened her design firm, Hattie Sparks Interiors.
After over fifteen years of living in and working on many historic projects in New Orleans, the city's aesthetic influence on Hattie is vast and ever present in her work - in particular the mix of old and new, and the way people treasure family heirlooms and pieces with soul. The level of ease and comfort in New Orleans homes shines through each space she designs. With that livability, authenticity, and joyfulness in mind, Hattie uses her background in art history and design philosophy to create relaxed, yet refined interiors that alight for a nationwide clientele.
The Philosophy
I believe in a relaxed fluidity to interior spaces. Elements should be able to change without altering the room’s visual cohesion. Many of my clients have families, kids, and pets who occupy these spaces, too. In my design philosophy, no room should be off-limits — every room ought to welcome others in.
I design spaces that are elegant and sophisticated, with a relaxing and approachable warmth. There is a level of ease and comfort that you see in homes here in New Orleans; we are always prepared for Mardi Gras glitter or the occasional wine spill. I design with that livability, authenticity, and joyfulness in mind.
